ABOUT US
Minjerribah, Moorgumpin Elders in Council Aboriginal Corporation (MMEIC) promote the true value of our meaning and worth as Original First Nations People. MMEIC has been a not-for profit incorporated entity since 1993 under the Federal Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976, and then, by regulation, under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006. Since 2002 MMEIC have been a registered Charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
MMEIC was created as a cultural organisation/body for preserving, recording, communicating, and teaching communities the culture and language of the Goenpul [Goren-pul], Ngugi [Noog-ee] and Noonuccal [Noo–knuckle] Traditional Owners.
The Goenpul, Ngugi and Noonuccal First Nations People of Minjerribah / Terrangee / North Stradbroke Island and Moorgumpin /Moreton Island have always considered ourselves as one, and this tradition is reflected in the formation and existence of the Elders-in-Council Corporation.
